How to be Bad

Basic Info: Written by E. Lockhart (The Boyfriend List) Lauren Myracle (Ttyl) Sarah Mlynowski (Bras and Broomsticks)

Barnes and Noble:

"Three girls who couldn't be more different have one goal in mind: to get the heck out of Dodge. Well, Niceville, Florida actually. But it might as well be called Nowheresville. Vicks is the wild child fry cook whose boyfriend left for college and isn't returning any of her calls; Mel, the good girl in expensive jeans who just wants everyone to like her; and Jesse, the trailer-dwelling human morality meter who's discovered a life altering secret-
Each has her own reason for climbing into Jesse's mom's beat up station wagon and hitting the highway for a weekend trip, whether she knows it or not. Armed with only Vicks's ancient, battered copy of a guidebook called Fantastical Florida, a map Jesse picked up with her dwindling funds, and Mel's mom's credit card, they're Miami bound. Hearts will be broken, friendships will be tested, and a ridiculously hot stranger could change the course of everything. And if they don't kill each other first, Vicks, Mel, and Jesse will not only have a road trip to remember, they'll have friends for life.
Ages 14+

My review:

Vicks, an "it's all good" type fry cook has a boyfriend who simply won't call her back. Mel, a rich girl who's had some insecurities about fitting in and a desire for real friendship. Jesse, the "Christianpants" who is being a "tightbottom" about the fact that her mother has cancer.

They don't seem to go together at all. But when Jesse tells Vicks to go see her boyfriend with her, and Mel invites herself along, they seem to hate each other even more. Then a series of things draw them together, a trip to Disney, breaking into a museum, picking up a hitchhiker.

But when things go sour again, will it take an alligator attack to make them realize how good of friends they are?

5/5 This is an amazing story, and a very realistic portrayal of how friends and frenemies act together.

I say 12+ for some language, getting drunk, and sex references. However, this is a real, toughing story, and that makes it a little better. :)

I recommend this to fans of comedy, romance, friendship, and the authors.
