Uglies

Uglies is the first in a series of 4, which include Uglies, Pretties, Special, and Extras. Those reviews will be added at the end. :)

Uglies is the story of Tally Youngblood, a 15 year old in the future. In this time, when you turn 16, you get an operation that makes you beautiful. Tally can't wait to be Pretty like her friend Peris. Then, she meets a girl named Shay, who doesn't want to be Pretty.

When Shay runs away, Tally thinks she'll get over it- until she is confronted by Specials. Specials were thought to be Ugly legends, until Tally meets one. They are ruthless, cruel, and won't let Tally turn Pretty until she returns Shay to the city.

The problem is, Shay is in a strange city that isn't even a city at all, across a desert ravaged by a fantastic weed. Mysterious ruins, a government conspiracy, and the shocking story of the Rusties, the humans that live in the 2000's, and how they die.

When Tally does find Shay, she falls in love with someone close to her. When Specials come, will that all dissapear?

Pretties!!! Tally Youngblood and Shay are back, and have been turned Pretty against their will. They now have the brain problems that the government has issued to keep rebels under control. Now Shay and Tally are perpetually happy and clueless- until a daring Ugly returns to give Tally pills to destroy the tumor on her brain.

It's all good- Tally is beautiful and smart- until Shay finds out her secret. Shay becomes enraged, and discovers her own way to destroy the tumor- cutting.

When Tally and her boyfriend Zane are put on "probation," and given tracking bracelets, will a bunch of Pretties be able to make an escape attempt? Especially with the changes Shay has gone through... 4/5 12+ because of self-mutilation

Specials!!! Now Tally and Shay are united again, emo, super strong, fast, and frighteningly beautiful. They are assigned to go after the mysterious city "The Smoke" again. But "The Smoke" was destroyed- where could it be now?

War had allegedly ended with the Rusties- but now, the Specials are out to stop "The Smoke" and it's base city. There will be a tragic death, and the transformation of all but one of the Specials. 5/5 For mature 12+ for self-mutilation and mild language

Extras!!! It's been 3 years since the "mind rain," a.k.a. when the Specials were de-Specialized, and the Pretties were made smart again. Aya is just a normal 15 year old girl, until she meets a clique of girls who do crazy things, like surf on top of trains.

While trying to catch their exploits on tape and become famous, Aya stumbles across a plan to launch missles at cities and rule the world. After revealing this story, strange beings come after Aya, who is saved by two very Special visitors, the most famous people in the entire word.
